Durham—The UNH Traditional Jazz Series is pleased to welcome phenomenal jazz pianist Benny Green to the Johnson Theatre stage on Monday, November 16, 2009. The “Boston Herald” calls him “…an all-around pianoman for his time” and “Soundstage!” touts “Green weaves a sound that demonstrates his love and understanding of music that seems far beyond his years.” Benny began classical piano studies at an early age, but his attention soon turned to jazz, and heavily influenced by his father’s record collection of Bebop musicians, he taught himself to play by imitating jazz greats Thelonious Monk and Charlie Parker. In Green’s own words, “…for myself and a lot of musicians I admire, the main focus is to just swing and have fun, and share those feelings with the audience…” Here’s our invitation to come and share in the fun!
The concert takes place in the Johnson Theatre of the Paul Creative Arts Center on the Durham campus, and begins at 8 p.m. Single Tickets are priced at $8, senior citizen and student tickets sell for $6 and are available at the MUB ticket office, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm, online at www.unhmub.com/tickets and at the door.
