Durham – The University of New Hampshire Department of Music presents a guest recital featuring flutist Joshua Carter and pianist Elizabeth Blood on Thursday, November 5, 2009 beginning at 8pm in the Bratton Recital Hall of the Paul Creative Arts Center on the Durham campus. The program includes music by Philippe Gaubert, Otar Taktakishvili, Bach and Mike Mower.
Joshua Carter is a flutemaker with Brannen Brothers flutes in Woburn, Massachusetts. In his capacity as flutemaker Joshua finishes and tests flutes and headjoints, making sure they meet the highest professional standards. He received a BM and MM from Florida State University and pursued additional post graduate studies at Indiana University and in London under the tutelage of Paul Edmund Davies, principal flutist of the London Symphony. His teachers include Charles Delaney, Lois Schaefer, Doriot Anthony Dwyer, Thomas Robertello, Paul Edmund Davies and Stephanie Jutt. Joshua is an active freelancer and teacher in the Boston area.
A native of Manchester, NH, Elizabeth Blood received a BM from Northwestern University and an MM Accompanying and Chamber Music and Opera Coaching from Florida State University. Principal teachers include Dr. Carolyn Bridger and Douglas Fisher. She currently serves on the faculty of the University of New Hampshire and the Manchester Community Music School and is Director of Music at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Nashua, NH. She has worked on the faculties of Keene State College, Shorter College, and Plymouth State University and on the music staffs of the American Institute of Musical Studies (Austria), the Barga Institute (Italy), Opera in the Ozarks and the Granite State Opera.
