The New Hampshire Youth Band, conducted by Dr. Mark DeTurk and Eric Kobb,  provides an enrichment experience for fine high school and middle school instrumentalists.

The New Hampshire Youth Band provides an enrichment experience to dedicated players in middle school and high school of concert band instruments. The band is conducted by Professor Mark DeTurk, Coordinator of Music Education at UNH, and Eric Kobb, Band Director at the Cooperative Middle School in Stratham, NH.  Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Paul Creative Arts Center at the University of New Hampshire.

Band members benefit from the resources and opportunities available on a college campus including excellent equipment, a beautiful concert setting, and assistance from college music students who work patiently with each student to help them perform sophisticated, age-appropriate music at a high level. Students who have enjoyed the SYMS and SYMS-Prep summer programs at UNH seem to benefit particularly well from the New Hampshire Youth Band experience.

The band meets for two ten-week sessions each year. Ten rehearsals in the fall will precede the fall concert on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 3:00 pm. The winter session rehearsal starting date will be posted here, with the final concert on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 7:00 pm. Interested families should contact Professor DeTurk at mark.deturk@unh.edu or call the UNH Department of Music at (603) 862-2404.
