Nicholas Orovich holds the rank of Professor of Music at the University of New
Hampshire where he teaches trombone, euphonium, tuba, theory, and is the conductor of the Symphonic Band. Since 1979, he has held the position of
principal trombonist with the Portland Symphony Orchestra. He is a charter member of
the Boston Philharmonic, and the former principal trombonist of the New Hampshire
Symphony. An active free-lance musician, Nic works regularly in both Boston and
Portland, and occasionally with other orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout New
England. He is also a member of the Hampshire Consort, a
faculty Renaissance Brass Quartet. Nic has been a faculty member of the Symphony School of America in Dodgeville and LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and the Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. He also teaches at the Summer Youth Music School (SYMS), held every July/August on the UNH campus. A native of Mayville, Wisconsin, Nic received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, attended the Institute for Advanced Musical Studies in Montreaux, Switzerland, and received his M.M. with honors from the New England Conservatory.
