Summer Art Classes for Children

Sign up now for summer art classes for your children during the week of August 3-7 and/or August 10 - 14, 2009. Sessions are available in the morning and/or afternoon. The cost per session is $125 per child, or $225 per child for two sessions in the same week.

Week I: Monday, August 3 - Friday, August 7, 2009
Session I: Mornings (9 a.m. - noon)

 1. Introduction to Drawing
Instructor : Gretchen Woodman
Grades:
4 - 6

Explore drawing methods and techniques and learn direct observation and drawing skills with a variety of projects, including loosening-up exercises and drawing from still-life arrangements, landscape, other pictures, or your imagination.

2. Monotype Printing
Instructor :
Michelle Munson
Grades:
4 - 6

Experience the form of printmaking known as Monotype. Using painting materials, experiment with three different processes and choose your favorite to explore further on your own.

3. Beginner Fiber Arts
Instructor : Tameson O'Brien
Grades:
4 - 6

Learn the basic techniques used in felting, knitting, crocheting, spinning, and weaving. Explore the range of colors and fibers available today and create pieces reflecting your own style and individuality.

4. Self-Portraits
Instructor : Judy Krassowski
Grades:
7 - 9

Learn how to portray your emotions, interests and likeness through a variety of media and visual art styles. This class focuses on facial features, tips for proportion, and individual style development.

5. Color and Composition
Instructor : Elissa Von Letkemann
Grades:
7 - 9

Discover how color combinations and composition can create different effects. Using pencil and paint, see how monochromatic, complementary, and analogous colors, line weights and compositions can convey motion, scale, visual rhythm, and more.

6. Exploration in Watercolor Painting
Instructor : Mary Mojica
Grades:
7 - 9

Explore the various techniques used in watercolor painting. You'll use both still-life arrangements and the exterior landscape for inspiration.

Session II: Afternoons (1 - 4 p.m.)

7. Painting
Instructor : Judy Krassowski
Grades: 4 - 6

Pop culture provides the inspiration for painting with acrylics. Pattern, rhythm, movement and color theory techniques fill out the week's
projects.

8. Exploration in Watercolor Painting
Instructor : Mary Mojica
Grades:
4 - 6

Explore the various techniques used in watercolor painting. You'll use both still-life arrangements and the exterior landscape for inspiration.

9. Exploring Color & Design with Monotypes
Instructor : Gretchen Woodman
Grades:
7 - 9

Experiment with the process of monotypes by painting on plexiglass using favorite images or freehand design. The class will begin by experimenting with the paints and various techniques to create small works, then move on to create a larger individual project and a group project.

10. Intermediate Fiber Arts
Instructor : Tameson O'Brien
Grades: 7 - 9

For those students with a basic knowledge of fiber arts techniques, this intermediate class delves deeper into finishing techniques and patterns.

11 Art Box

Drawing, printmaking, collage, bookbinding, and sculpture are all explored in this multi-media class, along with specific historical references.

12. Working with Wire - 3D Forms & Jewelry
Instructor : Judy Krassowski
Grades: 7 - 9

Learn the basics of jewelry creation and wire sculpture, where form meets function and then takes a leap into fantasy! Explore the tools used in fine metalworking techniques with take-home vessels, boxes, creatures, and bling.

Session II: Afternoons (1 - 4 p.m.)

13. Interior Room Design for Kids

Grades: 4 -6

Design chairs, tables and more by drawing and creating 3-D forms! Beginning perspective and spacial concepts are introduced.

14. Art Box

Grades: 7 - 9
