Elyot Henderson, American (1908-1975)
Initially pursuing a career as a concert
violinist, Elyot Henderson attended the Julliard Institute of Music in New York. He toured
North and South America from 1933-1936 playing for informal parties, but after
deciding that the touring life was not for him, he turned his focus to art, pursuing
studies at The Art Students League in New
York. There he worked with such well-known artists as
Bernard Karfiol and Robert Laurent. Henderson
was the curator of the Museum
of Art of Ogunquit in
1961 and was a member of the Ogunquit Art Colony. He was a professor at Vassar College,
head of the art department at Wheelock
College and taught at Berwick Academy
in South Berwick, Maine.
