After All, Conflict is Normal
Our Mission:
Our mission is to provide you with trained UNH mediators who will help both parties resolve conflict in a professional, safe, and neutral environment. By using the mediation process in good faith, the opportunity to resolve your dispute with another party can result in mutually satisfying outcomes for everyone!
Introduction:
Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process in which a neutral third party helps participants find solutions to conflicts. There is no right or wrong, no winner or loser. Mediation is about problem solving . Both parties are given an equal opportunity to explain their sides. The mediators then assist the participants in outlining an agreement.
Who Uses Mediation ?
ROOMMATES
FRIENDS / DATING RELATIONSHIPS
ORGANIZATION MEMBERS
TENANTS / LANDLORDS
NEIGHBORS
COMMUNITY MEMBERS
What To Expect :
Both Parties in the dispute agree to mediation
On a mutually satisfying date & time, the parties come together in a conference room with 2 trained mediators.
The co-mediators will establish some ground rules & an "Agreement to Mediate" form is signed by both parties.
Each party will have an opportunity to present her or his side of the dispute in a safe, confidential, and relaxed & structured environment.
The mediators then help the parties define issues & common interests.
Once the stories have been told and the common interests and concerns defined, the mediators & disputants generate possible options toward a solution.
Once these options are developed, the next step is to progress toward determining practical solutions.
And in the final step, a realistic, written agreement to which both parties have consented is signed.
