Before applying to the Materials Science Program at UNH, be certain to learn more about the research projects of the Materials Science Program's 14 faculty members, and identify one or more that are of specific interest to you. You are encouraged to contact the corresponding faculty member(s) directly to discuss your interest in his/her/their research group(s).  Once you are ready to apply, you'll find complete instructions for applying to the Materials Science Program at UNH at the following UNH Graduate School link:

You must complete your entire application through the UNH Graduate School. In order to do so, you’ll need the following things:

  • Transcripts: One official transcript from the Registrar's Office of each college/university that you attended for at least one year. International transcripts must be translated into English.  Electronic Transcripts are only accepted if they are e-mailed directly from the corresponding institution of higher education.
  • 3 Letters of Reference from academic and/or professional sources that know you well and that can compare your academic/professional training to others that have successfully completed graduate degrees.  Your references should send their letters of recommendation directly to the UNH Graduate School, not to you.
  • GRE Test Scores are required. You should request your official test scores to be sent directly to the UNH Graduate School by the testing service. Test scores that are more than five years old may not be acceptable. Student copies and photo copies of test scores are not considered official. Our CEEB code is 3918.
  • A Personal Statement/Essay is required. Prepare a brief but careful statement regarding: 1) the reasons that you wish to do graduate work in this field, including your immediate and long-range objectives, and 2) your specific research and/or professional interests and experiences in this field.
