2008 Family Boat building

BUILDING A SMALL WOODEN BOAT TOGETHER IS A DREAM MANY FAMILIES SHARE. THE UNH MARINE DOCENT FAMILY BOATBUILDING PROGRAM MAKES IT POSSIBLE NO MATTER YOUR SKILL LEVEL.

For each of the last seven years six families have come to the UNH Kingman Farm in Madbury and built a 12’ rowing skiff over a three day weekend. Each family, aided by a docent throughout the entire process, proudly takes home a boat to demonstrate their craftsmanship and provide fun on the water for years to come.

Family boatbuilding is grounded in the belief that a family will bond and learn by successfully completing a grand project together. We guarantee success.

NEW FOR 2008

In the spring of 2008 we are planning to offer an 11’ 4” sailboat at an estimated cost of $850 including sail and rig. The prototype was shown at the Portsmouth International Boat Show and at Durham Day to rave reviews. It has been sailed with equally high marks as a sprightly sailer that easily carries two and rows equally well.

Building will take place on June 21, 22, and 23, 2008 plus an additional day for each family to complete the boat.MidiMac Picture

Families must complete an application and be accepted to participate. Click here to access the application form. Completed applications and a check for $850 made out to the UNH Marine Docents should be completed by June 6th and sent to:
