Chair, Department of Business, Skidmore College, 1986-87. Responsible for budgets, scheduling, recruiting and general administration of a program with 20 faculty and the largest number of majors at Skidmore. Developed and chaired the Business Advisory Council, composed of top level executives locally and nationally, to provide advice and assistance to the Business Program at Skidmore.
Director, Small Business Development Center at Clark University. 1982-86 Prepared the proposal and secured funding for the SBDC. Directed a staff of counselors and a secretary. Also directed faculty and students who worked for the center, on an ad hoc basis, providing counselling and training programs for small business in the Central Massachusetts region. The SBDC provided short term counseling to approximately 300 clients per year, in depth counseling to approximately 100 additional clients per year and assisted an average of 35 clients receive a total of $3.5 million dollars per year in financial assistance. The SBDC also sponsored 25 workshops, on average, each year.
Developed and directed the Small Business Institute at Clark University, funded through a Small Business Administration grant from 1979-1986.
Served on the Board of Directors of the Worcester Cooperation Council, Inc., a non-profit, community development corporation. Also served on the Board of Directors of W.C.C.I. Capital Corp., a S.B.A. licensed MESBIC.
Hired at Temple University to develop the Business Policy and Planning Group, that grew to a combined total of seven people.
Chairman of the Graduate Affairs Committee, at Temple,1975-77. Had responsibility for overseeing policies for all graduate programs within the School of Business Administration. This included 10 MBA majors, 6 M.S. majors and 6 Ph.D. majors in Business Administration as well as Ph.D. programs in Economics and Statistics. There were approximately 2500 students enrolled in these graduate programs.
Charter member of the Collegial Assembly of the School of Business Administration. Secretary and served on the Steering Committee for three years. This was the policy making body of the faculty, numbering 150 full time, tenure track members. Also served on various committees that were responsible for allocating or overseeing salaries, merit and inequity adjustments under the AAUP represented union negotiations.
Outside of the specific, University setting, I have served as head of various professional organizations. I founded and served as President of the Eastern Case Association. This group represents academicians involved in writing, teaching and research in case analysis. It is one of the major groups in this area of business education dealing with case findings.
I also served in various administrative positions, including President of the Northeast Region of the American Institute for Decision Sciences. I have also served in various administrative positions in both the Eastern and National Academies of Management. These positions have brought me in contact with, and made me responsible to, a large portion of the membership of the Academy. I have also served in a variety of positions in the North America Case Research Association, including as President and Editor of the Case Research Journal, the leading journal in its field, sponsored by NACRA.
