TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My approach to teaching is to create an environment in which self-discovery and ownership for the learning occurs.  I believe that teaching is about asking the thought provoking questions that make people think, connect concepts, and reflect.  Equally important is creating an environment for learners to experiment, make mistakes, and invent.  My goal is to ensure relevance and to help learners build confidence in their ability to apply the learnings within their environment.  Finally, I believe that my success in helping others learn, regardless of audience and context, is directly related to my commitment to self-reflection and personal growth.  That is, being aware of my worldview and learning style and constantly testing my assumptions.  This awareness allows me to assess others needs and tailor my approach to teaching accordingly.
