It was a hapless day that arrived when a ten-floored building transformed into a big brick dinosaur.
It wobbled a bit like a toddler at first when it discovered its legs, and almost toppled over onto the pedestrians in the street. But, it gained its composure again and surveyed the scene with its window paned eyes, curiously tilting its head at the organized havoc below. The streets were packed with cars and busses, stopping and going at blinking lights, commuters were running over cross walks bridges trying to avoid the metal machines rolling around the corners. Tall buildings stood like glass sentinels in every direction, caging the morning sun with hundreds of eyes staring out into the sky. It saw its huge shadow cast ahead of it, weaving across the sidewalks and streets, and bending over other buildings. The people bustling below didn't notice, though, they were walking in undulating crowds to their jobs in the din of the morning, talking on cell phones with newspapers stuck to their faces or staring straight ahead. The growling of cars and shouting horns were too loud to pay attention to a huge shadow shifting across the sidewalks.
A cacophony of screams arose and pandemonium erupted in the road as everyone attempted to evade the jowls of the mutated brick building. People jumped about trying to get away, flailing their arms like rag dolls and running into lampposts and other people.

In a quick second the creature pulled itself free from its foundation, shooting sparks in the air from snapped power lines. It stomped its newly acquired feet and erupted a deep roar of energy into the morning air. Suddenly everything was silent. The quake had knocked the commuters off their feet and they were now staring wide-eye and unbelieving at the massive red and orange scaled tyrannosaurs rex dripping bricks down to the ground. The people stayed still, mouths agape, they had seen in the movies that the dinosaur wouldn't see them if they stayed completely still. But, instead, as soon as the beast realized it was liberated from the cold ground, it went about eating the people sitting motionless in the streets and swallowing them whole. A cacophony of screams arose and pandemonium erupted in the road as everyone attempted to evade the jowls of the mutated brick building. People jumped about trying to get away, flailing their arms like rag dolls and running into lampposts and other people. Cars smashed into each other, shooting shattered glass scattering over the concrete, ejecting people like burned toast. Motorcyclers flipped over halted vehicles and skidded to a stop on their backs, stunned. The dinosaur ran around scooping up people, leaving deep footprints in the pavement and cars crushed flat down to the ground, leaking gasoline. It moved instinctually through its natural stone habitat, swinging its head back and forth looking for prey, kicking objects around effortlessly and stepping on people like little bugs.
The residents inside the dinosaur, stuck in rooms, rolled around in its belly and head like potatoes, not knowing what was going on. Soon the whole block was destroyed: capsized cars tipped on their sides and burning, traffic lights pulled down, people dead in the streets and dust rising everywhere. The citizens that had escaped hid in buildings and under wrecked cars and called the police. The dinosaur just stood, rocking back and forth on its feet and swinging its head around in every direction, making sure its small territory was safe. Ten stories full of people, and the dinosaur was completely occupied, so it decided to rest and build a nest in the pavement. It gently gathered up the wrecked cars and pulled down more vines of power lines and set them arranged carefully to rest in the middle of the street.
Soon, from the distance, sirens echoed to the dinosaur's small ears, so it stood up and looked around inquisitively. It sniffed the air deep into its snout wondering what was approaching, when suddenly from around a corner cars with flashing lights skidded to a stop. Teams of men jumped out in a hurry and ran around the cars in lines, yelling at each other. But when they stopped and looked at the dinosaur, they just stood with their eyes pointed upwards, mouths agape and frozen. People stared back at the police from the dinosaur's eyes, yelling for help and banging on the windows. But the building just shook its head and turned around, tossing all the people around inside.
Suddenly a humming arose in the sky and helicopters hovered over the dinosaur's head. The news had broken throughout the city of the chaos which had occurred that morning, and everybody wanted to see what was going on. So the news crews took it into their hands to show the people via their television sets. A silent breeze blew through the city, and everyone everywhere held their breath waiting for something to happen on their TV's. But the dinosaur just turned its back and returned to its nest.
All the streets were deserted of life, the warning had gone around that a building was eating people, and it was considered dangerous to go outside. Everyone was hiding in their apartments, sitting on their couches and staring at their television sets at a brick dinosaur prowling the streets of their city.

Maybe the police were mad that the dinosaur paid them no attention, or maybe they wanted some action to show the people how mean the dinosaur was, because suddenly they opened fire. Little pellets shot through the air chipping off little pieces of rock from the dinosaur's skin, which agitated it; and it turned and charged right toward the line of police cars, its eyes fierce and fiery from the sun. The police knew not what to do, so they jumped back into their cars then turned and sped away. The dinosaur trailed after them until they were well off in the distance, then it stopped and started to look around.

Some could feel the rumble of its footsteps, and others watched out their windows as it passed them by with helicopters buzzing around its head like flies. The TV cameras followed it like a car chase, and some people hoped for more destruction, but the dinosaur was just wandering around becoming acquainted with its territory. It searched the alleyways, and looked in windows at people sitting on couches and staring at blinking boxes. The helicopters followed wherever it went, and the show kept going.
Because the dinosaur was a menace to the human population of the metropolis, the mayor decided that something had to be done, as it was obvious that the dinosaur wasn't going to leave on its own accord. The people had to live, and not be fearful of going out in their own city. How were they to subsist if they could not go to their jobs or the supermarket? He decided that crazy events like this one must be solved through extreme measures, so he called all the demolition crews of the city, and set into motion a plan to free his citizens of this new threat. Everyone met in the mayor's office to learn of his plan to destroy the nuisance, and return the city to business as normal.
"What about the residents inside?" a few people asked the mayor.
And all he said was, "a few lives are worth the well being of an entire city."

The dinosaur was still on the news, but now on every set in the entire country, and everyone was watching as if it was a science fiction show, cheering for their own people to win. The country stared at their televisions as a police car came into view and the dinosaur stared straight at it, bearing its sharp teeth, and almost scowling. Some bullets hurried through the air and stung the beast on its sides and then the car started to drive away slowly. The dinosaur rushed after it to scare it away, but when it turned a corner, it was smashed back by a large ball from a crane, and sent careening into another building behind it. Its prehistoric blood dripped black from its wound into iridescent puddles on the pavement, and a few limp bodies fell from inside to the street. Sitting at home, people became sad at the scene and covered their eyes a bit. They were all surprised to see that building didn't fight back, but instead ran away, leaving a trail of its piped innards dragging along the road. The dinosaur limped through the metal and glass jungle and soon found itself on the outskirts of the city, where it saw trees and mountains in the distance. This sight amazed the dinosaur, for it had never seen nature.
Green trees swayed in the wind, rustling their branches and shaking their leaves. But then with a crack, they began to fall over, and rip their roots loose from the soft ground. The dinosaur trudged over the mountains, leaving a path of snapped timber behind it, and searched for a new place to build its nest. The helicopters still hovered above, watching, as it rested to lick its injuries. Unfortunately the dinosaur didn't have any hard foundation out in the woods, no concrete to hold it up above the ground, the soft forest floor seemed to swell. Suddenly it couldn't breathe; there wasn't enough smog in the air, and no exhaust from the cars. It started to sway, and the people at home looked on attentively, waving their heads back and forth, when unexpectedly the dinosaur just crumbled into a pile of bricks and exhaled its final dusty breath. Everyone watching TV clapped and cheered as if they had won the World Series because their way of life had been perpetuated. The country congratulated the mayor of the city with big parades and tickertape for his help in destroying the dinosaur that didn't belong in a human environment.
