Kalle Matso focuses on how science and new knowledge link to decision making, especially with regard to community resiliency and environmental issues. He contributes to the MADPP by offering instruction in approaches to using scientific inquiry to address complex problems (such as Structured Decision Making and Joint Fact Finding) as well as facilitation, designing group processes and evaluating science and technology policy.

Originally trained as a journalist and then as a marine ecologist, Kalle now focuses on more effectively linking science to societal decisions in a timely manner. Currently, he helps run the NERRS Science Collaborative, a partnership between the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Prior to that, he helped run the Cooperative Institute for Coastal and Estuarine Environmental Technology (CICEET). Kalle received his bachelor's degree in English from The Colorado College his master's and doctorate degrees from UNH.
