Kevin Gardner
Professor, Civil Engineering Department
Kevin Gardner is a Professor of Civil Engineering, a member of the Environmental Research Group and Associate Director of the NH EPSCoR program. His work in sustainability has included using the tools of life cycle assessment to evaluate environmental impacts: assessment of biofuels for electricity generation, production of durable goods and base chemicals from waste biomass, reuse and recycling of post-industrial materials in infrastructure construction. Other work has examined the sustainability of communities: what does sustainability mean from the perspective of a municipality or community? Work has specifically considered the intersection of land use (form of the built environment), infrastructure intensity, transportation behaviors, energy-related health outcomes and community social capital. He has taught short courses for the business community on using of life cycle assessment for competitive advantage and on understanding the changing landscape of supply chain transparency and eco- and social-labeling schemes.
