Location

The University of New Hampshire offers a two-week summer seminar for Spanish teachers at La Universidad de las Américas--UDLA, Puebla. The University is located in the oldest city on the American continent, Cholula, and is surrounded by the Popocatépetl and Ixtalccihuatl volcanoes. Cholula is an ideal location for UDLA. In this city stands the great Pyramid of Cholula, considered to be the largest in volume in the world.


Program

This special two-week program is designed for K-12 foreign language teachers who want to enhance their teaching and Spanish skills. The program is cosponsored by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the Center of International Education at UNH. The program provides teachers with a unique opportunity to gain Spanish language proficiency and to learn about Mexican culture through the interaction with native speakers. Spanish classes planned for all levels of proficiency will be offered along with a teaching methodology workshop, a teaching practicum, cultural workshops, fieldtrips, lectures on different aspects of Mexican culture and a weekend trip.


Credits

Participants will receive 3 graduate credits upon completion


Program Dates and Administration

Dates: July 3 - July 17, 2010

Administration: A member of the faculty will be in residence in Puebla to assist students and to administer the program each summer.


Program Cost

Students will be billed directly by the University of New Hampshire when they enroll. 

The program fee includes tuition and academic fees at UDLA, homestay, orientation expenses, field excursions and cultural workshops. Airfare, books and personal expenses are not included.

Important Note:

Students should plan to arrive in Mexico City on July 3 for the program orientation on July 4.

Someone from UDLA will meet you at the airport and you will take a bus to Puebla (a two-hour ride).

Cost (not including US-Mexico airfare)

The cost of the program in homestay: $2,057


Registration

To register you need to have the following documents:

1) Application form: Download this form and fill it out
2) Copy of ID page of passport or birth certificate
3) One photograph (passport size black and white or color); avoid photos printed at home
4) Copy of full coverage of international health insurance
