Introduction to Linguistics
Course description
This course is an introduction to the study of language. We look
at topics such as universal properties of human language, Chomsky's innateness
hypothesis, language acquisition in children, dialects and language variation,
and language change. The course also includes an introduction to modern grammar
(phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics) and to scientific linguistic methodology. No prerequisite.
