Program
Students enroll directly in the Université de Bourgogne (University of Burgundy), where they will take courses alongside French students, or at the CIEF (Centre International d'Etudes Françaises). All courses are taught in French by regular University of Burgundy faculty. Students will enroll in both semesters of thème et version, a translation course required of all participants regardless of major. French majors will also be expected to enroll in a French literature course each semester. French Studies majors will find a large choice of electives in any other liberal arts field. All students are encouraged to choose courses to satisfy General Education Requirements (upon petition), second major requirements, or general interest. A total of 32 credits (pass/fail) may be earned during the year abroad.

Housing
Students are normally housed with local families. Rent is covered by the special course fee. Housing arrangements generally do not include meals, although in some cases students may have access to kitchen facilities or be invited for a weekly dinner. Meals are at the student’s expense in one of the university restaurants (restaurants universitaires) or any of the inexpensive cafes around town.
Admission Requirements
Sophomore standing or higher is required. Open to students who have completed with a 2.5 GPA or better FREN 631-632 and FREN 651-652, or equivalent.
Application Deadlines
Applications for the spring semester are normally due in October of the first semester of a student's junior year. Students will be notified of their acceptance in November. Applications for the whole academic year are normally due in January of the second semester of a student's sophomore year. Students will be notified of their acceptance in February. This program is only open to student enrolled full time at the University of New Hampshire.
Travel and Insurance
Students will travel to France as a group in early September or mid-January. They may return at any time following completion of their coursework in late May or early June. They also have the option to stay the summer and take additional courses. Trip cancellation and repatriation insurance should be arranged by individuals as necessary.

Fees and Expenses
Students must sign up for FREN 690 with a special course fee of $ 2,025.00 for each semester of study. UNH tuition and fee cover registration at the University of Burgundy, mandatory health insurance, CIEF courses, excursions and private room in French host families. Students are responsible for the payment of their food, and travel costs. Other routine expenses include books and supplies, and miscellaneous living costs. The cost of additional travel in Europe, souvenirs, etc. should be considered when planning one’s budget.
In consultation with department faculty, students may apply for a number of scholarships that are available.
