Welcome to the German Program. Students who major or minor in German take courses in German language, literature, linguistics, and German culture and civilization. In addition to perfecting their language skills, students are expected to learn to think and write analytically about important texts of German literature and culture as viewed in their historical context.

Students can enhance their study of German through a relevant second major or a dual major and through participation in a study abroad program or internship.

Students have the opportunity to graduate with honors in the major by completing honors work in their courses and by writing an honors thesis. Students are strongly encouraged to attend the Stammtisch (German conversation hour) and to borrow from the Program's extensive video collection.
