The Asian and Arabic Program

Welcome

to the Asian Program and to Arabic Language Instruction.

Japanese and Chinese Language and Culture

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures offers courses in Japanese and Chinese languages and cultures.

Students interested in Japanese are also urged to consider study abroad and courses in other departments focused on Japan. A list of some of those courses can be found in the list of approved courses for the Asian Studies minor. Courses in Japanese are not currently offered at every level every semester. Students wishing to pursue their studies of Japanese must therefore build their semester schedules with available offerings.

The Asian Studies Minor

The College of Liberal Arts offers an interdisciplinary minor in Asian Studies. Asian language coursework can count towards this minor. See the program website for more information.

Arabic Language Study

Interested students may pursue Arabic language instruction at the elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. See the course offerings page for the appropriate link. A Middle Eastern Studies minor is also available.

Study abroad, internships, and double or dual majors are excellent ways to enhance the value of the course work done by majors and minors. Students may also graduate with honors in the major providing they complete the necessary classes and a senior thesis.
