On August 1, 2016, computers running Microsoft Windows XP will no longer be able to access the UNH Virtual Private Network (VPN). Microsoft stopped producing security patches and updates for Window XP in April 2014 (see this article for more info on Microsoft’s Windows
As such, these computers pose a serious risk to the data of all who access the UNH Network, including personal data of all UNH students, faculty, and staff. Basic requirements for UNH Secure Network access is any operating system that is still supported by the manufacturer.
Along with the security risks involved, Windows XP is not compatible with Internet Explorer 11, (the only Microsoft browser supported by USNH), newer versions of Java, and an increasing number of software applications.
If you are currently using a Windows XP computer, whether university-owned or personal, please contact your supervisor or department head to determine the best course of action.
