Getting to UNH
Most students coming to UNH will be flying into Logan International Airport, Boston. ISA does not offer a pickup service from Logan for new students. It is not that we do not want to, but severe limitations of resources (cars, people) and time make this impractical. The existence of a simple alternative solution also makes this unnecessary.
There is a reliable bus service (C&J Trailways) that operates hourly from Logan International Airport to Portsmouth, NH. We do offer to pick up new students from Portsmouth which is much closer.
In most cases, students have some relatives/family friends living nearby who will pick them up and drop them at the university. The instructions below are for those who do not fall into that category. The high level of detail is to convince parents of the simplicity and ease of taking a bus from Logan to Portsmouth.
All international flights land in terminal E of Logan Intl Airport. The bus stops right at the entrance of the terminal. You can't possibly miss it. As soon as you walk out of the door of the terminal, walk towards the right on the sidewalk (footpath). Within a few metres, you should see a board that says 'Buses' and also buses stopping at that point every few seconds. Get into a bus that has a "Portsmouth, NH" label on the front of the bus. You can of course confirm from the driver that you are indeed getting into the right bus. The buses are almost always atleast half empty, so you should have no trouble finding a seat. The driver will stow your luggage away safely. Portsmouth is the last stop for the bus, so do not worry about getting off at the right stop.
It is always best to carry a few quarters (25 cent coins) with you in case of strange circumstances like canceled flights. There are public telephones everywhere and being able to call someone inspires a lot of confidence when the unexpected happens. If you are unable to bring any from home, you can always make some change at the airport or bus station.
If you have informed the Indian community at UNH about the approximate time of your arrival through email or telephone, someone should be waiting for you when you get down at Portsmouth. Please be sure to include your flight information when you contact us, so that we can check for flight delays and then start driving to Portsmouth, which is approximately 20 minutes away. In the unlikely event that someone is not waiting for you sit down in the waiting area of the bus station, enjoy some free hot coffee and someone should be there soon!
