Funding is probably the most important thing on the minds of students when they get here. Studying in the United States is costly and on top of that, UNH is an expensive school.
Funding in UNH (like any other school) comes in three forms: Teaching assistantships (TAs), Research assitantships(RAs) and tuition waivers. Most students at UNH are funded in some form or the other. Teaching assitantships are the most common form of assistantships awarded to new students. In addition to waiving your tuition, these positions offer a stipend of about 1200-1400$ a month. In spite of the high living expenses at UNH you can actually save something! Tuition waivers are pretty good too because 'tuition' is very high at UNH (~11000$ per semester). You can always find an on campus job and manage your living expenses.
Funding is more competitive in the Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering departments. Some students from these departments are not funded (or are partially funded) initially. If you fall in this category, your options are to look for an hourly job. These jobs can pay anywhere from 8-12 $ an hour and will suffice to pay your living expenses. There are quite a few options to choose from.. Grading, Computing services, Dining Halls.. Grading jobs are probably the most in demand because they are hassle free and can be done at home at your own leisure. During the last few years many students have found grading jobs with the Mathematics department. So do inquire at this department when you get here.
You are also free to try and apply for assistantships in other departments, provided you are qualified for them. Several students have found assistantships with the Physics department in the recent past.
Note that..
"In the past, every student on campus has managed to secure funding in some form after the first semester"
The above statement should not be interpreted as a guarantee of funding but as a statement of encouragement for students who are actively considering UNH as an option for graduate studies.
