Where Can I Buy My Textbooks?
Students get their books for classes from a number of different sources. There's always the UNH Bookstore which is located on-campus in the MUB. You can also order your textbooks online. The UNH Bookstore offers new students the option of reserving their books during Orientation. You just hand a copy of your schedule to the Bookstore representative, and they do all the work. When you arrive in the fall, you just pick up all your books. The UNH Bookstore also carries UNH merchandise and clothing.

Should I Wait to Buy My Textbooks?
One of the most common questions that new students have is: should I wait to buy my books? Most upperclassmen recommend waiting until you move to campus in August before buying your books. It can sometimes mean waiting in long lines, but it's the only way you can ensure that you pay for only the books you need. Sophomore Mark Kalb regrets pre-ordering his books for his first semester at UNH. "When I went to class, my professor told us that two of the books I had pre-ordered were optional. I felt like I had wasted my money." In addition to ending up with books you may not need, there is always the chance that your schedule will change before classes start. If you pre-order your books, you may have to go through the trouble of returning them and buying books for your new class. "Besides," adds Junior Eugene Borden, "some professors add books at the last minute, so you have to stand in line anyway."

How Much Will My Books Cost?

What about the cost of textbooks? It's important to remember that in addition to all the other costs associated with coming to college, you'll also be paying for your textbooks. Some students forget about these extra costs. Most students weren't surprised by the high costs of textbooks because they had family members or friends who had previously experienced the sticker shock of buying books for college courses. Out of the students we surveyed, the total spent on books their first semester ranged from $250 to $600. Sophomore Ben Vitale points out, "It completely depends on your major. If you're in the sciences you'll pay a lot more for your textbooks and lab supplies." Business major Kristen Harding agrees, adding that you need to be aware of extra costs like course packets that professors create specifically for their classes.
Buying your textbooks is one of the new experiences you will have when you arrive at UNH. Hopefully this information will help you through this process.
