Who is My Advisor Every student at UNH--undeclared or declared--has an academic advisor. New students should meet with their advisor within the first six weeks of the semester. All students must meet with their advisors each semester for course selection approval prior to registering for classes. Students may change their advisors if they wish. If you
don't know who your advisor is, ask:

How
Do I Register for Courses?
The Time and Room Schedule which you will receive just before mid-semester
provides all the details on registering for classes. Here are the
steps:
| 1. | After reviewing the Time and Room schedule, complete the Registration Worksheet (and any other worksheets your academic program requires). Meet with your advisor at a scheduled time. This meeting is required for you to obtain your Registration Access Code (RAC) number and to have final course list approved. |
| 2. | Obtain any needed "permission required" slips from the professor or department office and take them to the Registrar's Office. |
| 3. | Register
at the appointed time to get your desired courses using the Webcat
Registration web site or the telephone system. |
| 4. | Review
the Registration Web page, particularly the open/closed course
pages, either before you call in or after when you're trying to
make a change. |
| 5. | The web and telephone systems open for additional time after each class has registered. Persistent use of the open windows during these times pays off for many students. Students can also try to change courses during the drop/add period at the start of each semester. |
| Students must declare a major by the end of their sophomore year or when they have earned 58 semester hours of credit. | |
| Some majors are "open" majors - no pre-requisites, application process, or deadline for admission. Students just complete the Change of Program form, and obtain the necessary signatures. | |
| Other majors are "restricted" and students must complete specified courses, complete an application, or apply by a deadline or within a certain time period for admission. | |
| A student's current academic advisor can provide information about restricted or open majors and refer them to the appropriate contact person. Students should begin exploring prospective majors as soon as possible after they arrive at UNH. |
