Welcome to the inaugural issue of Inquiry, the online undergraduate
research journal of the University of New Hampshire.
UNH has a long-standing commitment to undergraduate research, to giving students opportunities, guided by faculty, to learn first-hand how research is designed, carried out and shared. This research takes place in all the academic disciplines—the arts and humanities as well as the sciences and social sciences. An original painting, a fresh insight about Shakespeare and new information about a chemical reaction are all research.
Inquiry offers students the final phase of the research process: communicating the results of their investigations to a wider audience, one beyond their own discipline. This is a challenge, and they work with faculty and a Student Editorial Board in preparing their articles.
We chose the title Inquiry to express the spirit of inquisitive discovery and reflection of the researchers. We hope this spirit as well as their results comes through in their articles.
So Inquiry is about not only student research but also about student researchers and editors working together on the difficult job of communicating their experiences and results to a wide audience—you.
