Welcome from the Vice Provost
The University of New Hampshire is committed to promoting an atmosphere that is diverse and complex enough to be intellectually and socially enriching for students, faculty, and staff. Over the past years, the University has engaged in many diversity initiatives that foster an inclusive community that recruits, welcomes, and supports those who have been historically excluded or underrepresented in higher education for reasons of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, or income. There is a continuing need at the University of New Hampshire, as there is nationally, to expand and enhance racial, ethnic and cultural understanding, not only because it is morally correct, but because the students we educate will be better prepared to apply their knowledge to solve critical social problems if they understand cultural differences and appreciate people with backgrounds other than their own.
The University's goal of creating a more diverse and inclusive campus community is being achieved through a concerted effort that engages all aspects of faculty, staff, and student recruitment and retention, curriculum development, and the processes of scholarship and creativity. Through the diversity of this university, our students are able to develop a full understanding of their roles as members of the University community and our global society. Diversity prepares them as graduates for their work in a diverse population and a diverse world.
The University of New Hampshire is committed to expand our efforts in creating a more diverse and inclusive community.
Sincerely,

Wanda S. Mitchell
