Our Mission
We are one of seven IMPACT
Centers in the New England area. Our common mission is to
facilitate the implementation of exemplary
standards-based mathematics and science programs and provide professional
development to K-12 teachers for the advancement of mathematics and science
teaching in
New England.
Our program has three phases of professional development:
- awareness phase
-
- overviews of available materials presented by UNH IMPACT at professional
meetings
and individual schools.
- examination by educators of sample curricular materials
- consultations between educators, administrators, and our staff to plan for
thoughtful transitions and training to successfully meet each school's needs
- training phase
-
- intensive training sessions
facilitated by skilled Curriculum
Trainers (CT's) that are intended to give teachers the background to use the
materials in the classroom
- implementation phase
-
- ongoing support from the curriculum trainer and
implementation advisor to help teachers as they bring the new materials in the
classroom.
- creation of electronic communities among educators
who are using the same materials
- evaluation phase
-
- using data to drive the decision-making process
- assessing students' learning and program diagnostics
- providing data gathering and analysis sessions for strong, dynamic
programs
-
While we focus on our neighboring geographical
region (southern Maine, northeastern Massachusetts, and southeastern New Hampshire),
we work in concert with the other IMPACT Centers to provide services for all of New
England.
