Budapest Spring Semester | Program Details

Corvinus UniversityCurriculum

The program is designed to provide an intensive study abroad experience focusing on modern Hungarian and Central European history and culture. Students take 16 credits of course work: two courses taught by a UNH faculty member in residence and two taught by Hungarian faculty (taught in English). HUMA 550: Special Studies in Comparative Ideas will focus on human rights in Hungary and the European Union in spring 2013. Topics will vary in subsequent semesters, depending on faculty in residence. HUMA 551: Field Studies in Art and Culture includes weekly field trips to cultural sites in Budapest, historic towns in Hungary, and cities in Central Europe, and satisfies the Fine and Performing Arts Discovery category. In addition students will take a course in Modern Central European History, and Central European Literature. These courses are approved for Discovery categories in Historical Perspectives and  Humanities, and participating in the program satisfies the World Cultures requirement.


Housing and Meals

Students live in furnished apartments, usually two to an apartment. Apartments have fully equipped kitchens and inexpensive restaurants are plentiful.


Eligibility

Sophomore standing, a 2.5 GPA or better, declared major, and free of major disciplinary infractions.


Tuition, Fees, Aid

Students pay their usual tuition but are exempt from mandatory university fees for the semester. Students pay a program fee covering housing and excursions for the semester, an international health and travel insurance fee, and a study abroad administrative fee. Students are responsible for their own meals and travel expenses. Travel and Insurance

Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and purchasing tickets needed to arrive in Budapest. Students will be met at the airport in Budapest and assisted with apartment move-in. High standard health services with English language medical staff are available for appointments, urgent care, and 24 hour on-call service.
