Budapest Spring Semester Program
The Budapest Spring Semester Program is available to any undergraduate at UNH interested in living and studying in the historically rich city of Budapest. Budapest is the capital of Hungary and among the most beautiful cities in Europe. Straddling the Danube River, the city offers beautiful architecture, wonderful museums, lively and varied cultural activities, and major universities that contribute to a vibrant student life in the city.
The Program
The Budapest Spring Semester is designed to provide undergraduates with an intensive study abroad experience focusing on modern Hungarian and Central European history and culture. Students will study at Corvinus University and earn 16 credits in courses taught in English by Hungarian and University of New Hampshire faculty and through field trips to cultural sites in and around Budapest as well as other Central European cities. Courses fulfill the Historical Perspectives, Humanities, and Fine and Performing Arts Discovery Program requirements; students fulfill the World Cultures Discovery requirement through participation in the program. Students will be introduced to Hungary’s rich history and culture and to some of the most significant developments of the 20th and early 21st centuries, including the rise and fall of Soviet domination of Central Europe, revolution and democratizing in Hungary, and the significance of Hungary’s membership in the European Union. The experience will also provide students a context for developing their own sense of their place in the larger world, reflecting on what it means to be an American in a globalizing culture.
Eligible students must hold sophomore standing and a grade point average of 2.5 or better. Students will meet several times prior to the Budapest Spring Semester to prepare for living and studying in Budapest and will meet on returning from the semester to reflect on their study abroad experience.
Budapest is ideally located for travel to other major Central and Eastern European cities. It is an hours ride by train from Vienna, easily accessible to Prague and Krakow, and on the boarder with Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, and Romania. Classes typically meet Tuesday through Thursday, allowing long weekends to travel, to participate in cultural activities, and to sample all Budapest has to offer. A weeklong spring break will allow for more extensive personal travel.

Application & Deadlines
The application deadline for the spring 2014 program is October 15, 2013. Students are encouraged to get their applications submitted as soon as possible as admission will be limited for qualifying students.
