Welcome

Interdisciplinary minors within the College of Liberal Arts are academic minor programs that draw on the knowledge and expertise of the faculty of two or more departments within the College or across colleges. These minors take as their focus a theme, such as Asian Studies or Religious Studies, and offer related coursework developed by faculty in many different disciplines. As a student pursuing interdisciplinary study, you will have a unique opportunity to study various approaches to a single area of inquiry. In Asian Studies, for example, you could study Asian-American literature with a faculty member in English, Asian art with an Arts faculty member, Asian politics with a Political Science faculty member, and the Chinese or Japanese language with a Languages, Literature, and Cultures faculty member. By coming at an area of inquiry from many directions, you will gain a complex and deep understanding of your subject. By putting your approved coursework together, you could earn an academic minor that will be a permanent part of your University record.

Please follow the links at the right to explore the many opportunities available for interdisciplinary study.

Interdisciplinary majors are also available. Several of the programs listed at the right also offer an academic major in their subject: European Cultural Studies, Humanities, Justice Studies, Linguistics, and Women's Studies. In these cases, the link at the right will bring you to the website of that department where full information on both the minor and major are available.
