Interdisciplinary Conferences

Deadline: November 5, 2009
The Center will award one $3000 grant to support significant interdisciplinary conferences in the humanities. Any interdisciplinary conference in the humanities is eligible for support. Conferences that connect the humanities to other fields are particularly welcome, as are conferences that serve as a component of larger events. Conferences can be designed by one faculty member, a group of faculty, or an academic unit; other institutions or organizations may also be involved as cosponsor.
Conferences receiving Center support must list the Center as a major sponsor. We will fund up to two conferences each year.
Center funds can be used to support the expenses of featured speakers, publicity, and other costs associated with conducting the conference. Funds will be available at the start of the appropriate academic year although it may be possible for monies to be made available earlier.
Proposals should include the following elements:
1. Cover sheet with this information:
• Conference title
• Names and positions of UNH conference organizers
• Names and titles of external co-sponsors
• Date and location of conference
2. Proposal narrative no longer than five single-spaced pages of 12-point type which addresses these questions:
• What are the goals of the conference?
• How are the qualifications and experiences of the organizers and presenters related to the conference goals?
• How significant is the conference topic or theme for research in the humanities?
• What is the conference design?
• Who are the key presenters, and are they tentatively committed to participate?
• How will the conference be promoted and publicized?
• How will the results of the conference be disseminated?
3. Budget noting any other sources of funding.
4. Vitae of conference directors, not more than two pages each.
