Youth Employment

Listed below are some quick and easy rules to keep in mind when hiring youth at UNH.

  • No one under the age of 14 may be hired under any circumstances.

PROCESS for hiring youth at UNH:

NOTE: Youth Employment Certificates are obtained from the youth's school system and forwarded by the hiring department or BSC to UNH Human Resources.

Effective August 15, 1998, the New Hampshire Department of Labor changed the Youth Employment Law. The requirement for work certificates for 16 and 17 year old youths was eliminated; however, the requirement that employers must maintain on file a written document signed by the youth's parent or legal guardian permitting the employment was added (parental permission not required if the youth has graduated from high school or obtained a general equivalency diploma).

Work certificates provided by the youth's school system and signed by the parent or legal guardian are still required for 14 and 15 year old youths.
