LOCATION

Durham is located in New Hampshire's Seacoast Region--one of the most desired locations in the state, and, some would say, the country. Beaches and an estuary are a short drive away, and New Hampshire's Lakes Region and White Mountains take only one or two hours to get to. If you feel the need to get to the big city, you can make it to Boston within an hour or so.

Durham is located within easy reach of Interstate 95 and Portsmouth (known to some as "Little Boston"), which is only 12 miles away.

Boston Logan Airport is an hour's drive. Manchester Airport is a convenient alternative; it takes only 45 minutes to get to. The new AmTrak commuter rail service, which runs from Boston to Portland, Maine, has a stop on the outskirts of town.

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, the closest of three major hospitals serving the area, is only four miles away.

The UNH campus is just a hop, skip, and a jump from downtown.

The average travel time to work for Durham residents is 15 minutes!

EDUCATION

From kindergarten to high school, Durham's first-rate Oyster River School system consistently ranks among the best in New Hampshire. Durham boasts separate modern Elementary, Middle/Junior High and High School facilities that provide a full range of academic, athletic and technical studies.

RECREATION

Durham offers a full range of recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. As a true seacoast waterfront community, Durham offers a wide variety of the best in boating, sailing, fishing, and swimming.

Make sure to visit Adams Point, a beautiful estuary located on Great Bay, where families and hikers bring picnic baskets and binoculars to spend a day enjoying the scenery, catching glimpses of wildlife (horseshoe crabs and great blue herons abound), and walking trails through fields, woods, and rocky beaches.

And don't forget Jackson's Landing, situated on Oyster River, a favorite spot for residents and UNH students to relax on blankets or at picnic tables. If you're lucky, you'll see the famous swans who make their home at the nearby Mill Pond, or spot great blue herons who stand at the dam in hopes of catching their food.

Numerous parks and recreational areas dot the town, and through careful planning, features like bike lanes and trails are being added constantly to enhance enjoyment of Durham's spectacular landscape.

Durham's Oyster River Youth Association has an extensive recreational program. Visit them at www.mv.com/ipusers/orol/district/orgs/orya/ to find out more.
