Life Insurance Plans

The University offers the following Life Insurance plans:

Under the Flexible Benefits Program, there are four life insurance options from which to choose (Option B, if you are 50 - 74% appointment). All options carry a double indemnity clause for accidental death.

Option  Description
A $10,000 basic coverage
B 1 1/2 times annual salary
C 3 times annual salary
D 4 1/2 times annual salary

*Evidence of insurability is required for coverage in excess of $350,000.


ReliaStar Life Insurance Company
(formerly Northwestern National Life Insurance)

ReliaStar is a term life insurance with payroll deductions based on your current age. Amounts of coverage can range from $10,000 to $250,000. Coverage is also available for spouse and children. For further information on ReliaStar or to enroll, contact Human Resources: 862-0501 (voice), 862-3227 (TTY) or the USNH Benefits Office at 868-1800.

A death certificate is required for life insurance payout.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D)

The University provides AD&D as an additional feature of your basic life insurance policy. Employees may purchase additional AD&D insurance in multiples of $40,000 up to a limit of $150,000. The cost of this coverage is minimal. Open enrollment for this coverage occurs at a designated time each year; information and enrollment forms are mailed to employees at that time.

Teachers' Assurance and Annuity Association (TIAA)

TIAA offers individual term life insurance plans to employees and their spouses. For further information call TIAA at 1-800-223-1200.

Enrollment in the TIAA/CREF retirement plan is not necessary to purchase this life insurance.
