ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN I
Classification:
Function of Job:
Under direct supervision from a designated supervisor and/or member of the research or computer operations staff, to perform routine work in the installation, maintenance, repair and/or construction of electrical and/or electronic equipment and related devices, which may include computer and data communications equipment.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine installation and wiring tasks and/or mechanical/electrical layout/ construction tasks from detailed schematics, blueprints and diagrams.
- Prepare simple schematics and wiring diagrams for presentation to and approval of senior staff.
- In connection with other duties as required, operate simple machine tools and common electronic instruments, and perform soldering.
- Solder and assemble chassis boards from detailed plans.
- May assist in the repair of radio/television receiving equipment and other media equipment or computer and data communications equipment.
- May assist in the collection and reduction of data.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
- High school graduation, including courses in mathematics, physics, elementary electronics or computer science.
- One year of experience performing electronics work in a technical field or one year of college with courses in mathematics, chemistry, physics, computer science or engineering, or one year of full-time equivalent on-site electronics training in a technical institute.
- Skill in the use of electrical and electronics components, such as resistors, transistors, and condensors or computers and electronic equipment such as microcomputers, modems, printers, voltmeters and related equipment.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in construction, operating and maintaining electronic equipment/instruments.
