EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER II

Function of Job:
Under general supervision of director or supervising teacher of a laboratory school/children’s center, supervise, schedule and coordinate curriculum, operations and activities of an early childhood educational program, based on the high standards required for a model training facility.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver daily and weekly program for young children, which is developmentally based and individually considered.
- Observe and record developmental progress of each child in program.
- In Director’s or supervising teacher’s absence, be responsible for maintenance and supervision of laboratory school/children’s center.
- Write child evaluations and confer periodically with patents.
- Supervise undergraduate students assigned to classroom and assist in their onsite training, including reviewing plans; conducting pre- and post-session reviews; observing videotapes of activities; and reviewing students’ narratives on individual children.
- Assist Director or supervising teacher in maintaining a safe and clean physical environment, including preparation and follow-up on maintenance requests.
- Recommend innovations and improvements in program to Director or supervising teacher.
- Maintain necessary files, records and forms.
- Supervise staff as assigned.
- Be familiar with all texts and handouts used in Early Childhood courses and attend workshops, seminars and conferences to keep informed and to continue own professional development.
- Participate in institutional professional development and training.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood, Family Studies, Elementary Education or related field and two years of experience in teaching early childhood-age children or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Family Studies, Elementary Education, or related field with at least 18 credits in Early Childhood Education, including 3 credits in child development, and four years of related experience.
- Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this position, including lifting up to 50lbs.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Teaching experience in a laboratory school and/or a NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children)-accredited program.
- Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification.
