DIRECTOR OF NETWORK ENGINEERING

Function of Job: 

Under administrative review of Director of NHPTV, to direct and be responsible for the overall planning/coordination of all engineering operations of the NH public television network.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Direct/coordinate the efforts of all studio/transmitter engineering personnel through their respective supervisors.
  2. Advise engineering staff and other network departments on overall planning/coordination of all internal and external engineering functions of the network.
  3. Determine engineering budget and monitor expenditures against budgets, grants and awards.
  4. Develop/implement network engineering organizational procedures/policies.
  5. Interview, select, hire, terminate and evaluate the performance of engineering staff.
  6. Prepare all necessary FCC engineering documents, assuring that all FCC engineering requirements are met.
  7. Participate and represent all network engineering relationships with other state, regional and national technical groups, including broadcast networks, stations, cable companies, communications and microwave systems, technical planning groups and in-state school systems.
  8. Supervise and prepare specifications for purchase of equipment in compliance with HEW Engineering grants/State Capital equipment grants; supervise/negotiate all engineering purchase and contractual arrangements.
  9. Maintain up-to-date equipment inventories of all network engineering facilities.
  10. Supervise and maintain engineering records/files to meet FCC requirements.
  11. Prepare and present technical papers, as may be required by the network in its relations with external technical groups.
  12. Perform other related duties, as assigned.  

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: 

  1. Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or Associate degree in Electronics or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  2. Ten years of engineering supervisory experience in commercial or educational television broadcasting.
  3. First class FCC radio-telephone broadcast license.
  4. Demonstrated familiarity with current state-of-the-art procedures/equipment.
  5. Familiarity and experience in preparing FCC engineering applications/forms.
  6. Supervisory ability.  

Additional Desirable Qualifications: 

  1. Previous experience as chief or assistant chief engineer at a commercial or educational television organization of comparable complexity.
