CONTINUITY COORDINATOR (TELEVISION PROGRAMING)

Function of Job

Under general supervision of designated supervisor, to perform duties relevant to maintaining continuity in the broadcast image and programming of a television station, and the preparation and maintenance of related programming logs and records, weekly schedules, and on‑air promotional copy.

 Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Acquire, verify, and compile programming and recording information from various sources and prepare, update, and check accuracy of Network program operations logs documenting all broadcast activities, including schedules of programs aired, their sources/origination points, underwriting credits, material between programs, title and timing, special feeds and records.
  2. Plan and write breaks between programs, using videotape, film, and original copy with slides.
  3. Prepare audio book for each broadcast period to correspond to program log, containing copy used by staff announcer for night's broadcast and complete information and instructions for engineering personnel.
  4. Provide support and assistance to other members of program department including arranging special program feeds to and from other networks, locating materials, coordinating machine use, and arranging alternate broadcast schedules in emergencies.
  5. Evaluate programming problems, resolve schedule conflicts, and make appropriate changes to avoid recurrence.
  6. Read, sort, evaluate, route, and maintain files on recorded and future program information, teletype communication messages, slides, mail, and correspondence.
  7. View promotional material and programs for content and timing on closed circuit feed.
  8. Communicate programming information to other station departments and provide assistance to other departments and networks as required.
  9. Coordinate information for, chart and prepare worksheets for thirty‑week ITV broadcast schedule.
  10. Assist in maintaining record and dubbing schedule.
  11. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
  1. Two years of college or equivalent.
  2. Writing ability.
  3. Ability to meet pressure of daily deadlines.
  4. Typing skills.
  5. Tact and diplomacy in dealing with co‑workers.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
  1. University/college graduation.
  2. Previous broadcast experience in programming and/or promotion.
