New employees at UNH now are treated to a full day of orientation activities that include a campus tour and overview of the history and mission of the university following the launch of Getting Started @UNH.
Implemented May 12, the bi-weekly program is intended to acquaint new staff with the history, mission, values and organizational structure of the university, and the university System of New Hampshire, as well as to provide them with information on institutional policy and strategy.
While Getting Started @UNH still includes an overview of the benefits that are available to UNH employees, the full-day format also incorporates a tour of campus and the Durham community, overview of professional development opportunities and personnel issues, and lunch at Stillings Dining Hall. All programs are held in the MUB.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the Getting Started @UNH program," said Nancy K. Franz, associate director of the Cooperative Extension and recent participant. "The day provided the majority of information I needed to get a good start at UNH in a very supportive environment. I especially enjoyed the individual attention to my concerns and needs, meeting the HR staff, and getting to know the campus. I wish the other institutions I've worked for in the past had offered this type of orientation."
