Federal Privacy Law Disclosure Statement
Federal Privacy Laws require the University of New Hampshire to utilize privacy disclosure statements when requesting social security numbers from students and employees.
The information below is provided to inform you of the reasons for request and use of social security numbers by UNH/USNH.
The University System of New Hampshire is required by federal Internal Revenue Code to report the identity of all individuals, along with Social Security numbers (SSNs), who are paid compensation by UNH/USNH. The SSNs of employees are maintained and used for payroll and benefits purposes, and are reported to federal and state agencies as required by law. SSNs are also used for employee benefits purposes to ensure accurate identification and accounting of these benefits. UNH will not disclose an employee’s SSN to anyone outside the university except as mandated by law or required for benefits purposes in accordance with UNH/USNH policy.
