Sharon's career at UNH began 16 years ago when, with a daughter in school, and a son in preschool, she came to UNH looking for part-time employment. She was hired on the spot to fill a maintenance dispatcher position. Shortly after starting the position, a full-time position opened up, which she took. During her 12 years as a dispatcher, she gradually took on the responsibilities of special events planning, so the ultimate transition to planner/scheduler was a very natural one for her.

When asked what she enjoys most about working at the University, Sharon's response was the fact that she gets "to meet the most interesting people." She states, "Whether you are planning to shut someone's electricity off or helping to pull together their event needs, there is always a story behind who these people are. Because of what I do I get to meet these folks and learn to appreciate their individual jobs here at UNH. Hopefully when I do this I help to bridge a gap in understanding between the campus community and Facilities."

Her communication style parallels the pleasure she takes in meeting members of the UNH community and the respect she has for what they do. Sharon is the first to handle a situation in person, or by sending a representative of her department, rather than relying on e-mail or phone conversations. She laments the fact that we rely so heavily on e-mail, a form of communication that is so impersonal, and so easily misinterpreted.

Sharon especially enjoys working with students. She finds their energy contagious. They are often appreciative of the fact that she so willingly shares of her time and expertise to ensure the success of their event.
