For the last two and a half years, Jennifer Bedsole has held the position of Administrative Assistant II at the Center for Ocean Engineering. As the initial contact for the Center, she provides general information about many aspects of the Ocean Engineering (OE) program, including the multitude of ongoing research projects that take place there. An articulate individual with a great appreciation for the creativity displayed in the problem solving that occurs at the Chase Ocean Engineering Laboratory, it is hard to imagine someone better able than Jennifer to convey this information.

Besides providing information on the Center to prospective students and other interested parties, Jennifer also communicates with incoming, current, and outgoing students in regards to any questions they may have. She assists the Director of OE in monitoring student academic requirements, and coordinates the review of prospective student files for the OE review board. Jennifer is responsible for organizing all aspects of office performance, including "arranging and scheduling meetings; scheduling and coordinating all OE courses for the Time and Room publication; and providing administrative support to OE professors, research associates, and students." She also assists with "data research and input for the new Marine Program website" and with gathering information for the Marine Program newsletter - the "Saltwater News."

When asked what skills are needed for her position, Jennifer's response was "being an organized, people person who knows how to prioritize the workload while being able to adjust easily to the necessary interruptions that inevitably occur."

When asked what she finds most satisfying about her position, Jennifer replied "the interaction I have with all the diverse people that I come in contact with on a daily basis. Not only are there renowned professors and friendly co-workers, but fascinating research scientists and students from all over the world. This kind of interaction is always very interesting, and I consider this just one more important benefit that this job offers me!"

In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys gardening and spending time with her three children.
