Beginning his UNH career in January of 1996, Funso Afolayan has been a faculty member in the History Department for seven years now. He enjoys the opportunity to research and to teach about Africa to an enthusiastic audience of students. In fact, Funso states that one of the most rewarding aspects of his position is the opportunity to meet with students and influence their intellectual growth. He also enjoys the freedom and availability of resources at UNH that enable him to research, write and teach the topics that interest him.

Funso first became interested in UNH after having viewed an advertisement for an opening in the History department. Fortunately for the University community, he was warmly and enthusiastically courted and welcomed by the department faculty. Funso takes pleasure in working in a "peaceful and beautiful part of the country [that] provides a conducive environment for scholarship as well as for raising a family." He is encouraged by the University's stated commitment to the promotion of diversity as a concomitant requirement for academic excellence, and remains impressed by the collegiality among the faculty.
