David Proulx's involvement with the University community may help to dispel the myth that financial analyses are the boring domain of reclusive individuals focused entirely on numbers, to the exclusion of people. Those of you who are familiar with David know that he certainly defies this stereotype. Indeed, in his position as Senior Financial Analyst with the Office of the Vice-President for Finance and Administration, David's interpersonal skills and ability to interpret qualitative information are equally as important as his ability to analyze quantitative information quickly and accurately. In consulting with units on their strategic planning efforts, for instance, David's ability to communicate effectively, as well as to understand the ways in which the human component of the unit factors into the equation, are essential to the success of the work. In fact, David says that what he enjoys most about working at UNH is the people; "I love the can-do attitudes and open minds that UNH employees possess." He states that he has been positively impacted by the people he works with, and that many, "particularly Candace Corvey and John Griffith,…perfectly exemplify the attributes that I am working hard to achieve."
A two time UNH alumnus (BS Business Administration '92 and MBA '00), David began his career here five years ago, after five years of work with the USNH Internal Audit in the capacities of Staff Auditor and Senior Auditor. He became interested in working at UNH when he heard that the University was considering implementing a new budget system. As a result, David became a key player in the inception and successful implementation of Responsibility Center Management. The RCM project became a stepping stone for his involvement in other UNH financial management/budgetary responsibilities including, among others, performing various financial analyses and consulting assignments, financial forecasting, serving as liaison for the implementation of the Banner HR system and Ecommerce, and working with library collections management.
David receives invitations guest lecture in various courses on campus - it is a way to connect with the students. I enjoy it so much that I plan to assist in teaching an Intro to Business Course next fall at the Whittemore School.
David says, "…I really enjoy what I do. I enjoy it because I always believe that my contributions can have a positive impact on the institution, its students, and its employees. I look forward to going to work each day and taking on the various challenges that are given to me…I am also very motivated by all of the great things that are going on at the Institution - increase in enrollments, research activity, public service contributions and the continuous strive for excellence."
David is a Durham resident where he resides with his wife, Rachel and two children Madeleine, 3 and Evan 1. David enjoys spending time with his family, playing racquetball, basketball, golf, and tennis, mountain biking, running, hiking in the mountains of NH and Vermont, fishing for striped bass and reading about baseball history.
