Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

return to Benefits

24 hour confidential counseling and referral service
1-800-424-1749

This benefit is free to benefits-eligible faculty and staff

The Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) is a confidential counseling and referral service to help you and your family successfully deal with life's problems. All benefits eligible employees and their family members have the option to participate at no cost. The EAP provides:

  • Personal counseling sessions at an office convenient to your home or place of work. All calls and counseling sessions are confidential, except as otherwise provided by law.
  • Easy access and emergency help 24 hours a day, seven days a week through a toll-free number.

You can turn to the EAP for help with anything that interferes with your job or personal life. Among other things, your EAP can help you with:

  • Relationship problems
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Parent/child issues
  • Spouse (or partner) issues
  • Job or work stress
  • Alcohol and other drugs

The EAP can also help with "positive stress" as well. A new relationship, buying a new home, having or adopting a child, or getting promoted are exciting events, but can also be stressful. Any major change in your life may lead to the need for outside help in sorting things out.

We urge you to call the EAP as soon as you realize you need professional help...even if it's in the middle of the night or on a holiday. All charges have been prepaid by the University. There are no co-payments or extra fees for EAP counseling. (However, if your counselor refers you to local resources for additional help, their charges, if any, are your responsibility. Your medical insurance may provide for those services.)

Counselors are available nationwide and local counselors are available by appointment in Durham, Exeter, Dover and Portsmouth.

Visit the PacifiCare web site or print a copy of the EAP brochure. For more information, contact Nancy Puglisi.

ATTENTION SUPERVISORS:

The value of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) goes far beyond helping employees to resolve their personal problems. The EAP also provides consulting services to help you overcome managerial problems with your staff.

You may contact the EAP at 1-800-424-1749 ext. 2 (Special Services/Management department) and identify yourself as a supervisor.
