What is a Hovercraft?

The Need for Improvement

In the Recreational Vehicle Market there is a need for vast improvements of adaptable modes of transportation. Sportsman and thrill seekers alike are continually pushing the limits of technology when confronting nature's elements. Vehicles are required to run longer and safely transport passengers over all types of various terrains such as grass, mud, snow, ice, water, or river beds.

Alternatives

Several alternatives have been developed in an attempt to bridge the gap between land and water, but none provide practical solutions for the average recreational enthusiast. Amphibious craft, or "Duck Boats," incorporate a boat hull with wheels and water tight chassis. These designs, though rugged and reliable, are difficult to maneuver in confined spaces such as riverbeds and forests. Also, the cost associated with purchasing and operating these types of craft is in the thousands of dollars per year.

An ideal amphibious craft would be affordable, maneuverable, capable of traversing all types of terrain, provide a smooth transition from land to water, and travel at high rates of speed.

Why a hovercraft?

A hovercraft meets all the requirements for an ideal recreational craft.
Hovercrafts are able to transport fisherman from the beach to water, hunters across vast plains and rolling hills, firemen out on thin ice to rescue stranded individuals, and thrill seekers wanting to explore uncharted rivers and streams. This Light Hovercraft product is being targeted for recreational vehicle enthusiasts looking for a safe, fun, and efficient way to explore the outdoors.

About the Competition

The competition that we plan to participate in is held in Chillicothe, OH on June 22-25 at the annual Hoverrally. The event is sponsored by the Hoverclub of America.

Our hovercraft design allows us to compete in two different races.

  • Formula S
Where every craft has one engine and one fan controlling lift and propulsion.
  • Formula 2
Where the class is restricted to a maximum total engine displacement of 500cc.

Having two races allows us to have two drivers.
