The Hovercats team at Homecoming 2006.

Welcome!

The Hovercats are a group of University of New Hampshire Engineering seniors who are using their senior design project as a way to enter into the sport of hovercraft racing. Consisting of ten Mechanical Engineering students and two Electrical Engineering students, our goal as a team is to design and fabricate a hovercraft capable of traveling on all types of terrain while remaining maneuverable, compact, affordable, and easy to maintain using researching techniques, reliability analyses, experimental modeling and experimentation, design reviews with hovercraft professionals and other knowledge gained from our engineering careers.

The Hovercats are only the second UNH team to build a hovercraft at the University of New Hampshire. We ultimately hope to compete and place in the Hoverclub of America's annual Hoverrally competition in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Last night, a few team members tried out their "roll control" idea. A small flap was created to force more air pressure to one side of the hovercraft, causing the other side to sink down. This will create a sharper turning radius by submerging that side in the water and acting as a slight brake. This will allow the craft to be highly competitive in next summer's race, especially on the 180 degree turn. Special thanks to Bob, Kyle and Mike R.

Last Saturday, the hovercats were a part of the CEPS (College of Engineering and Physical Sciences) tent. The team brought last year's project and took pictures with many students and alumni. The team also answered various questions pertaining to last year's team and intentions for this coming year. Overall, the projects provided a positive representation of the skills that come with the engineering program at UNH.
