Why did you become a Hall Director?

I worked throughout my undergraduate and graduate career in Residence Life, Orientation, and Student Activities and always loved the energy that surrounded that environment. I had an opportunity to follow my graduate degree path for a while and found myself missing all of that dynamic energy that I had come to love. Ultimately the RHD role is the best of all my worlds; I get to continue to help students, learn from them, listen to them, and incorporate my energy into job! Being someone who likes to be in the mix and out working with people not behind a desk makes the RHD role and the residence hall environment the perfect balance for me.

Why did you choose UNH?

Having worked in smaller institutions previously I was looking for a larger University when I started my search. What I found at UNH surprised me! Yes, it is physically larger but it felt small and inviting. The people I met while on campus were genuine and full of energy.  The department’s student focus approach fit great with my philosophy and most of all what is not to love about the location!

Advice for first-year students...

“You can’t change the wind, but you can adjust the sail” –Anonymous

Ultimately, you make your college experience, if something is not working for you, do something different! The Department of Labor says the average person changes their career 3-5 times throughout their lifetime. Now, here are UNH is a great time & place to take a chance to try something new, ask for help, create a positive experience, build and develop your career opportunities, challenge yourself, step out of your box, and ask questions. At the end of the day if what you came to UNH for originally changes (like you career for instance), then you have grown and that’s the whole point!
