Alyssa Kelly, REAP 2013

Alyssa is a Nutritional Sciences major from Plaistow, NH. She plans to pursue a career in Food Science and has accepted a position as a Resident Assistant for the 2013-2014 academic year. Below, Alyssa discusses the work she will be conducting for her REAP project:

I will be studying the activity of the drug-metabolizing enzyme CY3PA in intestines. This involves the isolation of intestinal cells from rats treated with a specific chemical that induces the activity of the CY3PA enzyme. I will then work with a mentor, Dr. Gale Carey, to measure the level of enzymatic activity in the intestinal cells.
