Honorary Degrees and Granite State Awards Committee
The Honorary Degrees and Granite State Awards Committee seeks nominations of exemplary individuals for special recognition by the University of New Hampshire in the form of Honorary Degrees and Granite State Awards, as well as suggestions for commencement speakers. The committee examines and considers nominees and speakers of outstanding academic, professional, or civic achievement in order to make recommendations to the president and the Board of Trustees for approval.
The Honorary Degrees and Granite State Awards Committee includes the following: the University Provost (ex officio) and the Vice President for University Communications and Marketing (ex officio). It will also include the Director of the Office of Presidential Events and Programs (serving as chairperson), faculty representatives of each college and school, including the University of New Hampshire at Manchester, as recommended by the Deans and presented to the Faculty Senate for approval; a student representative of the graduating class; a deputy of the student body serving a two-year term as appointed by the Student Senate; a Graduate School representative; a UNH Foundation representative; and an Alumni Association representative. The appointed members will serve for staggered terms of five years each and ordinarily will not succeed themselves.
